About the artist

Gill Brophy

I’m fascinated by colour and texture, and love experimenting with different materials and techniques.

From childhood, I’ve enjoyed having something on the go — whether drawing, painting or creating something with a sewing machine. I even had a brief moment of fame on Tony Hart’s children’s television programme, when my entry won a small prize and was shown to viewers!

I paint landscapes, still life, flowers and everyday objects. Exploring new materials and techniques is a large part of the enjoyment.

I’m a long-term member of Chandlers Ford Art Group and am very grateful to everyone who has shared their skills and knowledge. In particular, Jan Janes was a wonderful tutor who encouraged me for many years. The many workshop tutors who have shared their skills so generously have also contributed to the huge enjoyment I get from my hobby.
